Edit: the whole title fit in the Subject line when I typed this

So many "system preformance" posts, it makes you wonder......

You get the latest and greatest comptuer setup only to find out that a few months down the line there is something even better.

    Are you like me:
You pretty much maximize your current system to get the most preformance out of is (save the strange mods for liquid cooling and what not)

    Or:
Do you sell what you have to get top dollar and go out and buy the latest and greatest only to repeat the never-ending cycle.

    Just curious.

Well, I don't know about everyone else but for me I like to start out big that way what I have is already ahead of the game. But in a couple of years or so I will upgrade memory and my graphics card to keep my computer up-to-date as much as possible. My opinion...it's easier these days to keep a computer up to date than 5 or 6 years ago since there seemed to be soo many new advances in processor speed and hard drive capacity and what you would need. Unless I see a 5ghz processor invented w/in the next year I don't think I will buy a new computer!

  3. I tend to buy 1 level below what is the top notch at the time, you pay a huge premium for having the fastest, best, newest whatever.

  4. i do the same as craig, only perhaps 2 levels below lol

i am planning 2 upgrade in about a month (check out my pc specs)- i will get a 2500+ barton and overclcok it to 3200+ speeds and get a better motherboard, but i am gonna keep the ram (should do 200 fsb)- normally i would update the graphics card but i dont think it is quite time for it yet so i will just overclock it like mad and that should run doom 3 etc ok- oh, and a 120 gig 8 meg buffer hard drive also hehe
1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
    2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website

When I built my 1.1Ghz Athlon Thunderbird computer, it was the latest and greatest.

Now that I have a much better idea about hardware in general, I tend to weigh price versus performance. Aside from the price, the newest anything usually has some kind of issue to work out. Hardware that's been out for a few months usually has better support.

In the years I've been dong the computer thing only once have I gone top of the line and that was just recently. Of course it was only top of the line for a few months... but thats how it works. Its never worth it for top of the line unless you just have the cash to blow. Most systems I plan for myself or others ride the PRICE/PERFORMANCE line every well. Meaning unless the person just wants to play games all day then they don't over pay for a system they can use for a good long while.

Of course the best system can be brought to its knees but a user who doesn't understand the computer. Its because software is by its very nature weak. Most home users would be better of with a PC running a special version of Windows CE for desktops, that why they can't mess the system up to badly.

An idea of where I'm at is I've had my new Athlon XP2000+ for about two months.
I can never see the day I'll buy the fastest processor on the market.
I can wait, I have other priorities right now, and probably another 7lb priority due the middle of next year
