  1. I've been posting this problem in the Audio section, but have yet to receive a single response. After doing some work last night I believe I've narrowed the problem down to my authoring process so I thought I'd post here and see what happens.

I've been capturing tv episodes using a PVR-250. I clip commercials using nano's editor, I forget exactly what it's called. Now, at this point I can view the clipped episodes on my computer without any problems. The picture is fine and the audio/video sync is perfect.

Here's the problem. At first I was using Ulead's MovieFactory 2.0 to author and burn the shows to DVD-RW using my Sony DRU-500A. When viewing the shows on my standalone they would start just fine, but over the course of the episode the audio would slowly lose sync with the video. By the end of the show the audio would be roughly a full second ahead of the video. I've posted here and viewed other posts regarding a gradual loss of sync and none of us have gotten a response.

Last night I thought I'd try a different authoring process just to see what would happen (hell, I've tried everything else). I downloaded TMPGEnc's new DVD authoring tool. I authored with it then burnt with it. This time the audio is out of sync from the get go. Just for kicks and giggles I used Nero to burn the TMPGEnc authored files. Same result.

I could be wrong, but since the shows are fine before the authoring process and not afterwards I tend to lean to authoring being the problem. I'm not so much looking at the burning process since two different burns created the exact same result. Perhaps there is some sort of setting I'm overlooking.

ANY advice someone could give will be most appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mick

Assuming you are ripping the dvd after you do this...if your using tmpgenc make sure you select the 3:2 pulldown. Hope this fixes your problem

  3. So, you capture straight to MPG2?

    No re-encoding?
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  4. My guess would be a multiplexing issue. Try de-multiplexing the files BEFORE authoring, so authoring with the elementary streams (.m2v and .mp2 or .wav). Then, when you author, play the VOB files from your HD in PowerDvd or WinDVD and see if they are in sync.

You could also try aithoring one that hasn't been edited. Cutting mpeg-2 files can be difficult and is known to frequently cause audio sync problems.

  5. Yes, I capture straight to MPEG-2 with no re-encoding.

I have tried de-multiplexing, re-multiplexing, then burning, but my file comes out looking very poor. I'm not sure what video compression to use in TMPGEnc when re-multiplexing (there aren't many choices with my version).

I'll try de-multiplexing then authoring/burning this evening. Thanks for the advice.

re-multiplexing should not affect the quality of the video, it sounds to me as if you are re-encoding, not re-multiplexing. Just use the simple multiplex option from the TmpGenc mpeg tools.

  7. OK, I de-multiplexed an episode, used TMPGEnc to author, played the VIDEO_TS using PowerDVD. It worked fine. Then I burned the VIDEO_TS files using Nero in DVD-VIDEO mode, stuck the disc in my standalone, and it worked FINE!!!

I'm testing with several episodes on one platter right now. If this works I'll ship some good ol' USA steaks across the pond to you.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
