    Okay slight exageration....
....I tried to backup a six episode disk yesterday (Royle Family Season One) and it wouldn't work, kept stalling at the same point so I put it down to a faulty disk.
I tried another dvd today (Monkey Disk One) and Smartripper reported it couldn't find the key for a specific vob file.
I tried again and same thing, stopped 24 seconds into the rip (first VOB, right?)
I tried it with CladDVD.net and it seemed rip all fine, but as soon as I opened it in dvd2one I got an error message saying 'copy protection detected, unable to proceed' (or words to that effect)>
I'm ripping in file copy mode, full disk.
    Anyone come across this?
    Thanks,
    Will

Smartripper is a good program but it has not been updated in a very long time. Try DVD Decrypter,I find it works better on newer disks than Smartripper.

Thanks wulf, DVD Dycrypter worked perfectly on the disk Smartripper failed with.
Thanks again man, appreciate the suggestion.

  5. @ Will Hay, good to see DVD DECRYPTER worked...but in some cases I have had both SR and DVDECR not work for ripping. It's usually do to the DVD itself...it's so scratched or damaged that you need a dvd cleaner solution, and in some instances, that won't work either.

However, one thing I have noticed is that both DVd Decrypter and Smart Ripper won't work no matter what, but DVD2SVCD's internal routines ripper and/OR DVD2DVDR's internal ripper will work just fine. It seems that some rippers are just more sensitive then others.

I have 4 of them and USUALLY at least one of them will work on problem disks. Just keep that in mind when you see you come across a disk where neither of the two big boys will work.

Yep, I'll bear it in mind, thanks.
It never occured to me that if SR and DVDDecr didn't work then something else would.
    Rather niave, I know.
Anyway, you've been a little quiet lately...
...what's the matter man, has the comedy run out or are you in hiding since your bollocking over the small matter of your friend and mine; txpharoaph?

Playa..did you ever try disabling error correction in the decryptor.?
I'm told it'll copy the f*cked files to the hard drive if you do this,
and then with a editor either lose the bad part, or fix with PIXEL TOOLS or such....
any experience?..cause I've been meaning to fix my scratched PLEASANTVILLE disc

also WILL., once in XP some burning program I installed a trial of "FEURIO"-i don't reccomended it as its for cds only.... anyway..it altered my ASPI LAYER without telling)

SO if its not the disc maybe something happened to the OS that DECRYPTOR got around....

  8. @ Will Hay, lol...your a trip man.... the "comedy" run out..lol... never...just figure the same ole gets old after a while....those types of posts imparticular..the "best" this the "best" that...you can't tell someone who uses ONLY DVDSHRINK that it's not nearly as good as other options...so I don't bother...then the always new starting "format" war posts.... stuff gets old....

Anyway, yea, keep that in mind...a variety of multiple rippers will come in handy, sooner or later.

@dcsos, i've never tried tweaking any of the default dvddecrypter options, mainly because the majority of the time they work perfectly....there's just those very rare instances where a dvd will not rip for some reason or another with either of the two big boys...but will for some reason or another with DVD2SVCD's internal ripper or DVD2DVDR's internal ripper.

I know that's odd...but it's true....another example was 8MM....couldn't get that damn thing to rip the other day for anything...DVD Decrypter wouldn't even rip a single file...Smart Ripper kept telling me some files were locked....and I couldn't even play the disk with powerdvd...so there was definitely a problem with the disk. But I tried to clean it...SAME RESULT...until I tried DVD2DVDR's internal ripper...it ripped very slowly...but ripped the entire disk 100%.

very weird, because i ripped 8MM a very looooooong time ago to SVCD with a very old version of smartripper. there were absolutely no problems. so, i'm guessing it may not be the ripping proggie itself, per se....maybe that particular disc was scratched or dirty in some area, or maybe your dvd-rom doesn't like it.....perhaps, smartripper or dvddecryptor is more sensitive to those type of errors...

some dvd-roms are more sensitive than others. i have 2 dvd-roms (on 2 separate computers) both the exact same brand and model. for a really scratched up DVD, one couldn't play it, while the other played and ripped it perfectly, and it had nothing to do with the ripping proggie.

I've had the same sorta problems too

on a dodgy DVD I had a while back both rippers didnt work using my LITEON, yet using my SAMSUNG DVD-ROM and SR I was able to get the relevant files (albeit at around 0.1X )

it took ages to rip it but eventually it got there

    Anyone have a problem with
    "THE BULLY"
I got cyclic rendundecy errors today on 3 different DVD-ROMS
so now I'm gonna try to copy VOB 1.1 (the one that always stops the process on all three setups) by another method

rendundecy errors errors are sometimes really just good old fashion errors. You sure the disc isn't scatched up? Cause having the problem on 3 different DVDROMs is kinda extreme.

    Not a scratch on it!
And it is just one of those good old fashioned errors, in fact this movie has no copy guard on the this commercial dual layer title(but under-used 6.5gigs)
so it ain't decrpytor or smartripper fault..

Now- I still by the way couldn't do a strait file copy as it had just the kind of response you guessed FLAYSTUS-IT'S an non-visible media damage..

BUT I've sort of gotten around it..

I opened the VOB in question directly from the dual layer disc in my drive
    in the WOMBLE edior ...
This is only possible cause there no css on the disc...
Upon playing the file I found a spot 17mins into the VOB that froze
I figgered this is the problem area of the disc..so I marked an out point just before the freeze..
TOOK WOMBLE 2.5 hrs to save this VOB to hard drive..now I had 3/4 of the VOB..
now I open file again and select from after the freeze to the end of the file
again I save this to hardddrive thjis was way fast for some reason other than its smaller size
Now I have before and after damage segments..
I join these two and call the result VTS 1_1.MPG.

Then in explorer, I call it .VOB and now POWER DVD plays the VIDEO_TS folder and IFO as if it was the original DISC! YAY!
But one last note tho the original chapters appear undisterbed in
POWER DVD playback, the new vob is fatter (1.5gig not .99) and this makes all my shrink programs fail..
I think I'll have to either
    1. split this one to two with FAB... or else
    2. reencode this vob I constucted to make it smaller..for IC or SHRINK
