Okay, question...
I just got a gig with an undisclosed video company to produce a quick 5 minute compliation of footage for upcoming home video and DVD releases. However, in order to get the footage, I must rip it from the original DVDs.
How do I do this and get perfect quality, or get quality close to perfect? Like no interlace, AVI; just get it to look as nice as possible. I don't need the audio, I just need to video in as close to source as I can get it.
I know I rip the files, but when I use DVD2AVI, it generates errors or runs at like 12 fps. I'm using a 1.8 GHz machinew ith 512 megs of RAM, so I really don't think that is the problem.
Can anyone help me?

i have ripped many dvds and they come out as good as the source.
i use gordian knot which uses dvd2avi and vdubmod.
http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main3.htm
you dont need the codec pack.just install divx pro.
for the interlace, you hit f5 in dvd2avi and if its pal or it says interlace have 'none'instead of force film.if its interlace, near the end when you hit save and encode check 'inverse telecine'.
in gk open the project.select divx 5
for the resolution.hit auto crop.
width 640
w-modul 32
h-modul 16
for the bitrate you might want to look at the bits# .27-.30+ it depends on the source.it could come out great at .17 with a bitrate of 800
save encode > preveiw check to see if the AR is right.
then have resize filter - neutral
save encode again
divx tab > first pass 10000 kbps or max
second pass keep as is
gordian knot is a little overwhelming at first, but you asked how to get perfect quality. -
I do this all the time. I rip with DVDDecrypter, the open the .vob files with Virtualdubmod (see tools section). Using the Panazonic DV codec, you just open the file and save as avi.
I have had problems using all other processes for this purpose. Usually, I have created a home video DVD and then deleted the source files, then Uncle so and so wants his own 5 minute clip on a seperate DVD. So I have to go rip the DVD to get what I want. I'm sure most of you have the same story.
Hope that helps. -
Ok...so I found the Panasonic codec, but I'm still getting the same frame rate issues. What settings should I choose in VirtualModDub?

Ok, another question...I have just figured that I will do the entire video in DivX 5 with the HD-Profile. Is there a way to remove the Divx Video watermark from the corner of the frame?
