  1. Been using TPMGEnc plus but some AVI files freeze the program is not a option for me.

Just got Mpeg Encoder but it seems to have a definite bug with no available fix.

I've got Roxio DVD Creator 6 but for the life of me can't figure it out. Also requires a screen size of 1024x768 which screws up the defaults for all my other programs.

So what is a good avi to mpeg decoder?

  2. The list is on the left (and up top in the software section). I am a fan of Cinmea Craft encoder over TMPGENC. CCE costs some money though (basic is in the $50's I think).

  3. Maybe someone could help you with the "some avi" files problem. I feel that TMPG is an excellent (and inexpensive) encoding tool....

    fmctm1sw is right.
Tmpgenc is fabulous (a bit slower then CCE...but better results).
Maybe some of the good folk here could resolve some of your freeze problems in some AVI's (maybe something as simple as codecs )

I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

I use CCE for encoding avis that are relatively long like movies because it's faster. I like TMPGE for short video clips because I don't have deal with writing the avisynth script that is used by CCE. I havent used TMPGE for a couple of months but to my eye, whenever I did side by side comparisons of the quality of the resulting mpeg2, TMPGE was a little better than CCE. I believe that once you get a good template for cce and you know how to effectively apply the avisynth filters that CCE will be better but I'm still trying to prove it. Check here for CCE's guide.
    This is so much fun!
