  1. I have a region 1 dvd i wish to backup, both my dvd-rom and dvd-rw are set to region 2.

Is it possible to make a backup ?.because when i put the dvd in the drive i get an region code error

When i put the dvd in the drive, it comes back with a regiod code error (this could be WinDVD maybe)

    I normally use dvdshrink

  2. Region codes affect playback but not reading. That is you can rip the DVD to your HD no matter what the region is. If you're really concerned.

    1) Rip full DVD to HD (DVD Decrypter choose 'mode|file' then select all files, smartripper choose 'backup' then select all files').

    2) Up the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in IFOEdit, and click the 'make region free' button

    3) Edit/process as normal (DVDShrink, DVD2one, CCE, etc).

I've never done it, but I hear that some Drives have a region code firmware hacks, I think that may let you. But since I've never done it I don't really have anymore info. As always I suggest caution when firmware updating a drive as it may kill it.

  4. with your roms set to region 2 it wont read the disc.
i am in a region 2 district and only every so often do a region 1 disc so what i did (because you only have 5 changes in region on the rom) is set the dvd-rw rom to region 1 cause its the slowest reader and kept the dvdrom to region 2 cause its the fastest and the most used for reading.

once its ripped you wont have a problem as it will then be region free.
