  2. What version of Premiere?

In 6.5 using the MainConcept encoder there is a problem that can be fixed by editing the Premiere .INI file -- this would cause a hangup or stop of the rendering after a short period of time. It *might* affect other codecs, I don't know. I can't say about earlier versions.

For more details visit Adobe's superb forum help for Premiere and other products. You'll get your answer in a few minutes.

A little more information is needed.

    What version of Premiere?
    What Operating System?

I know that versions before 6.5 have troubles in WinXP. I constantly had locking or hang on opening with v5, v6 is better, but v6.5 seems stable.

Does it hang on a specific clip? could it be a problem reading the source?

These are but a few of the questions that could help those of us here help you.

  6. Are you using the MainConcept encoder that comes with Premiere 6.5? And are you capturing DV video?

If so, make sure you first upgrade to the latest version (1.3 -- there is a link on both the Adobe as well as MainConcept sites). Then you need to follow this procedure:

Note that if this *isn't* your problem you ought to visit the Adobe support forums. They are free, fast and helpful, and even searching the knowledgebase can often solve your problem.

    Let me ask my wife....
    Search Comp PM
if you have both 6.0 and 6.5 hanging on you, then you may want to contact Adobe tech support or check out their forums.... One thing I like about Adobe (my wife uses their software in her Graphic Design job) is that she is able to get through any problem that she has encountered with their software by either of those two methods.....

Besides, they are the ones who programmed the stuff, so they would know tons more about it than 99% of the people here... (not a knock on anyone because there are some very experienced users here)
