I have a few .avi files that I beleive are really .asf files, just renamed to .avi by some moron who had it before me. Is there a tool that can you can use to determine what type of media file you have, regardless of its extension?
Thanx

Hi,
Play it in Windows Media Player and goto file-properties
under the advanced tab you will see a list of decoder filters the player is using to play that file and you should be able to find out that way.
If it's an asf file it will have Microsoft Mpeg-4 Video Decompressor under there.
Hope that helps
