STROBE EFFECT ON MY VCD'S. PLEASE HELP

I get this strobe effect on the dvix movies I have d/l. I have created very decent VCD from my own capture, but after I use Tmpeg to force the d/l movies (.avi) into a VCD compliant file (.mpg), I play it on my Apex 660 and get this weird effect every minute or so. I can see the video speed up, and then slow down to re-synch the audio. This whole process is usually about 5 sec. But it happens continously. Along with the fact the other parts of the video have this slight choppy/strobe feel to it. Again, I have not seen this on other VCD's I have created from my own source video. Any ideas?

i had the same problem with my APEX 600. except i was makeing my vcd's non-standard. what cured it for me was lowering my video bitrate. it was originally to high for my apex to read and that caused the same problems. but you are already down to a standard compliant so your bitrate is already low enough. i would try burning at 2x speed.i also do nothing else while i burn so my hard drive and RAM can focus its power solely on burning.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried to burn at 2x, but still get the same problem. Is the VCD compliant template in Tmpeg good enough for these dvix files? Or should I try to modify it and lower the bitrate, regardless? I have an 80 gig HD, and try to turn everything off. Will partioning my HD help? I maybe at that point.

if your useing the template and not upping the bitrate but leaving it at 1150, then you probably don't want to go any lower for quality sake. you say other VCD's are fine? the problems you have are with dowloaded AVI files? in my experience, i did have to run alot of tests on encodeing AVI files. seems they were more difficult to get right...

So, alucard2050, am I out of luck? I have d/l maybe 5 movies from Kaza and get the same effect. I guess it maybe the video source, but I am not quite sure. Any other ideas??

maybe its your player i have the apex 500w and i have no problems most are D/L files to

fishgod1010-i don't think your out of luck. i'm sure there is a way. seems like there is for everything else so hope is still out there. btw-what are you useing to burn the vcd's. also, have you tried to encode useing V-Dub? from what i've read V-Dub is able to do things TMPGE is unable to do. i havn't used it yet but it might help out....
