  1. hello.

this might be a newbie question but I just purchased a new hp100i dvr+rw burner on the net that didn't come with any installation cds. I simply pulled my old Lg cd-r/rw drive outta my computer, pushed in the new dvd+rw, hooked up the cables accordingly and was off. I've since ripped and burned files to both cd-r/rw and dvd+rw media using nero and other software and it seems to be working fine. Shouldn't i have downloaded a driver for this drive tho? am i missing something? All i could find was a firmware update for it, but no mention of specific driver required for operation. If i have to reinsitall my Os wont the drive need it's own set of drivers?? just wondering.

    thanks.

  2. I hope you got a great deal on the HP100 because it doesn't support DVD+R.

  3. vrdvd,

My installation of a Pioneer a06 was similar to your experience. Windows XP picked up the device, presumeably installed in the background and off I went using it. I guess the only thing to watch out for is the burning software may not support the writer. Other then that, everything was pretty automatic and smooth sailing for me so I guess if it works, why wonder how it works

    Cheers,

No the drive doesn't require a driver and as previosly stated you are limited the DVD+RW media. Was it really new if it didn't come with any software or documentation? Does the place you bought it from have a return policy? DVD=RW media is a bit more expensive. Things to consider. Research before buying.

  5. thanku all for 4 the input.

yes, I knew the hp was rw only but thought at $100 open box online, I couldn't wait to get into dvd authoring. My needs are for simple backups to save wear and tear on my collectors editions and saving the occasional one night rentals for later watching or clearing up some space on the hard drive. I didn't want to go crazy copying stuff that a year later i wont want to watch. I was able to get a 5pack of recordable media for under $10 so it'll do for now. and over the lifespan of this recorder, dvr+r/rw drives will continue to fall in price to the point where i can afford the unit i want. so this should keep me busy till dvd9 recordable media are availible but i guess that'll send the player prices back up again

    thakns again.

  6. Too bad you already paid the $100 for that HP burner since for another $37 you could have had this NEC 4x DVD+R burner.
