  1. I always heard that LPCM audio is the DVD standard. I made a mistake and converted some files to mpeg audio instead of LPCM. I am talking about the audio stream. I am going to put my files on DVD. My question is, what are the chances that I will have a problem playing these Files on a set-top player? And also what is the easiest way to convert my allready made Mpeg2 DVD files with mpeg audio, to LPCM audio?

I do not have access to the original AVI files,

    Thanks

  2. Although mpeg audio is not a standard for NTSC dvd's I believe the vast majority of NTSC DVD players will play them ok. The obvious advantage of mpeg audio over PCM is that it is a fraction of the size. I would reccomend using mpeg audio it should play ok.

  3. You don't say which part of the owrld you are in.

In PAL areas (Europe etc), AFAIK, mp2 audio support is mandatory for DVD players sold there, so if you live in a PAL area you should be OK.

In NTSC areas, mp2 support is not mandatory, however, and DVD player than will play (S)VCD (and many that will not) will still support mp2 audio, though a few will not.

If you really want as wide a compatibility as possible (audio wise), and don't want the size hit LPCM gives you, consider using Ac3 audio as this is supported by all DVD players.

  4. Thanks for the feedback. I will do some testing on some set-top players.
