Before you use tmpgnec, you have to use dvd2avi to get a d2v file and a wav file. After that use tmpgnec and select the d2v file for the video source and the wav file for the audio source...hope that helps.

Also, save yourself a lot of pain. After you download dvd2avi, unzip it in the same folder you have tmpgenc.exe.

  4. VOB files are MPEG2 files. They are just a different verison. You can demux the VOB file to it's elementary streams: m2v (video) and ac3 (audio) with smartripper

    1) Open the ripped DVD files
    2) Chosoe the titleset of interest
    3) Click on Stream Processes
    4) Click on enable stream processes
    5) Select the video stream and click demux, select the audio stream and click demux (have to select each stream seperately)
    6) Hit run

This will rip (or re-rip) the VOBs and demux them into m2v and ac3 files you can work with.

TMPGEnc is for encoding files to MPEG2. You can re-encode a MPEG2 file with TMPGenc if you want to change the resolution/bitrate of the existing MPEG. However, TMPGenc needs the MPEG2 plug in to read MEPG2 files (it's in the Tools section to the left).

Most people use DVD2AVI to frameserve the VOB files to TMPGenc (or VDub, etc).
