  2. Try a forum search, theres quite a few threads discussing various methods depending on your source material (which you don't say what it is) and there is a guide or two in the convert setction.

However, are you sure you need to convert. All European DVD players should play NTSC disks. It is then a matter of what kind of signal they output and what kind of TV you have. Some players will output NTSC signals in which case you need a multi-format TV, though the vast majority of European TV's are multi-format. Otherwise they will output Pal-60 (Pal signals but at 60 fields per second instead of the usual 50). Again, most modern TV's should be able to display this.

Just beacuse it doesn't work in your player, it doesn't mean that it's beacuse the film is NTSC.

98% of PAL DVD players can play NTSC. Unless your DVD player is very old, it should play a NTSC film.

Can you be more specific as to what you've done?

    i.e. rip the disk, then.............

The reason why it does not work has nothing to do with PAL/NTSC.

It does not work because you are converting an SVCD to VCD - neither of which have anything to do with DVD video (i.e. VOB files).

What disk are you trying to play in your DVD player: VCD, SVCD or DVD?

To make put SVCD onto DVD, sue this guide:

How to put SVCD MPEG2 video on a DVDR

No video reencoding required. Store several SVCD MPEG2 videos on one DVD. But it may not work on all standalone DVD Players.

You can never be 100% certain it will play on ALL DVD players, not least beacuse some simply wont read any sort of burnt media.

To get the greatest chance of it playing though your bets bet is probably to re-encode to full DVD compliant mpeg spec, then author as a DVD-video using a suitable authoring package.

  13. so wot i need to do is encode with tmpgenc to dvd complainent then authour it with something like Ulead and let that create all the vob files etc

You can reduce the pixellation by increasing the bitrate if you have room on the disk.

As to why it won't play on the LG, could be authoring or burning errors or it could simply be the LG can't read recordable DVD media.

  17. well i dnt think it was authoring or burning errors as it worked fine on another dvd player i have but this is not a known brand name so maybe thats why it worked? i duno

Just because it works on another player doesn't mean you should rule out authoring or burning settings completley. Different manufacturers may interpret the DVD specs slightly differently. Having said that the chances of it being an authoring issue should be pretty slim.

Is your LG player listed in the DVD players section of this site (left hand side) and if so do any owners say anything about recordable DVD media?

    not sure!
you either checked the list or you didn't, whats not to be sure about?

Something you havn't told us is what kind of DVD burner do you have and what brand media you are using. This could be VERY important.
