Hi,
Ok i have brought a dvd player, infact i brought the cyberhome405 - I've been interested in creating VCD's for some time now and well i have created them following the "How to convert to VCD with TMPGEnc" now it creates it fine just how i want it, however when i go to play it on my dvd player it plays but the picture freezes from time to time and the audio keeps playing, lets say its not possible to watch a whole film without getting pissed off - I have tryed it on my friends dvd and it seems to play them fine on his - I must be going wrong some where i pray its just some monior setting - Now if anyone has ANY ideas please help me out on this one i really want to get this sorted - I can play other vcds just ones that seem to be created in TMPGen but TMP seems to create the best vcd's i have tryed other programs but they dont come out as good ie: it looks all sqashed in on the tv unlike TMP which encodes them just like the orginal file! - Any advice would be great!
Cheers
Luke

It could be a myriad of problems but I would first start with the media that you are using. Look for your model of dvd player on this site and check the comments regarding media. Try using cd-r, cd-rw, etc. Some players are sensitive to the type of coating on the disc. My Sony won't play cd-r's, only cd-rw's that have a silver finish. Many cd's have a colored finish, i.e. blue, green, etc.
This is where I would start. The other possibility is that the bitrate is too high or low for your player. One would need to know what template you are using pal v ntsc, what are you encoding, an avi, is it divx, xvid?
These are just some types of things to look at, without more info on your Tmpegenc settings, media and methods, it would be hard to pinpoint the problem.
Hope this helps. -
I am currently trying to encode a Xvid but i have also tryed with a DivX (avi) and i am also using NTSC - As for the cd's i dont think that is the problem my dvd plays all types of cd;s

Also about that bithrate - I anit to clever with all this kind of stuff - But if you check this out https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=1832&Search=Search&#comments - It does say this " Absolute a great player. Probably just as good as the 402. Plays all disks I've tested. VCD,SVCD,XSVCD,Mpeg 1/2, MP3 (If the bitrate is higher than 448Kbs it start to jitter a little bit, the same happens in the movie when the total datarate exceeds 4700Kbs, picture stays OK well above this Rate." maybe that has something to do with it altho its not small jitter its pretty bad - Picture stops sound keeps going then the picture just jumps into action

I have an RCA DVD Player and access to a Cyberhome DVD player, IMO they're kinda poor when it comes to playing some DVDs and SVCDs. Matrix DVD has pauses when played on the cyberhome, SVCDs do it too. It's nice that it supports SVCDs/VCDs/DVD-Rs for just $50.

Lucos:
I am sure you have a fine player however that really doesn't exclude the possibility that it is a media problem.
For example, I have a Samsung dvd/vhs combo player that plays just about everything I throw at it however I just tried a svcd burnt on Memorex cd-rw. Now I have used the same Memorex cd-r's with great success as well as other cd-rw's but for some reason it doesn't like the one's mentioned. Why not try another media, its probably the cheapest and least time consuming method.
If you want to prod further into the technical side, try changing the field order in Tmpegenc as I have read similar posts referring to this problem. -
i am experiencing the same problem. i have the cyberhome 402 and 500 on the 500 it plays without problems, but on 402 i am experiencing the paused picture problem.

Getting the field order wrong will make the video seem to jerk. Espeically on pan's, and quick motion. It will not make the video 'freeze', and is not likely to be the cause of the problem.
I agree it's probably media, errors in the encoded mpeg streams, or a non-standard mpeg.Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
