  1. Hi,

im thinking of buying a standalone dvd recorder, preferably one that writes DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, multiregion, and reads all formats, id also like av in and out, now the one i have found is the SONY RDR-GX7 althouhg pricey i think i may be able to get a good price, does anybody have any experience with this recorder?

Also are there any other dvd recorders which meet all or some of the above sort of specs, thanks in advance for any comments.

My peeve is that the unit has no hard drive for the price they want for it ($1,300CAD). Way too pricey for a non HD standalone...

I agree. This thing is too expensive, especially when you consider that the +RW portion of this recorder is greatly sacrificed. And keep in mind that this recorder does not work with DVD+R, only DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW

Read this article before you buy this machine:

Yes, I should have mentioned that the article is obviously biased towards the + format since it is a DVD+RW site.

I would definitely have to agree about the Philips machines. There are countless complaints about them all over the internet. If you want a reliable +RW recorder, I think the Yamaha DRX-1 is good (and the irony is that it's made with Philips parts). Only problem with the Yamaha is it doesn't record in 2-hour mode, only 1 hour then jumps to 2.5 hours.

I imagine the Magnavox units would be the same as Philips, but haven't heard anything about them.

I guess we'll have to wait and read the reviews on the RDR-GX7 to see if it's worth it.

Where is Pioneer when we need them?
