  1. I have a Pioneer A04 burner and I use InstantCopy a lot to convert dvd-9 movies. Ritek has been my main media and I have had nothing but great results from them.

I am interested in trying Optodiscs because they are cheap and Ritek is out of stock in a lot of places. Are these discs any good? Should I get the gold or silver/regular ones?

Do these discs mess up after a few months like Princos are known to?

    I can get 50 optos for $41!

Generally speaking, when dvd-r disks are at that price, they are 1x rated disks. If your content with 1x speed then there is nothing wrong with them. AO5/105 users can supposedly do 2x with http://www.meritline.com/lib/meritline/DVR-105v130.zip
    which is the firmware update.

I used OptoDisc for a while (Toshiba SD-R5002 drive)
this was the description (50 Pack OptoDisc 4.7GB DVD-R Blank Media for General DVDR Disc (Disk))

Ive also use the DVD PRO (aka Princo so ive been told) and never really had a problem with them.

The gold topped disks are 4x rated so they will cost more, but generally 4x disks should burn at 2x speed (you may have to have a firmware requirement for that though. Generally if your firmware is up to date you can use these disks)

So id say its all about what you can live with.
You can get cheap dvd-r's that work fine as long as you are content with 1x speed (unless your drive happens to burn them at 2x - my drive will burn DVD PRO 1x disks at 2x speed with no problems)

Ive been using DVD PRO for over a year and never had a problem with them burning nor using (i opened up the first one I ever burned as a dvd, plays fine, and can even back it up)

I think its totally personal preference but the general use OptoDisc work fine.

  3. I think I wil order them because I burn at 1x and I have a Sony 715 dvd player (new one) and an apex 1200 that seems to play everything I throw at it. I was just worried because I always use Ritek and never had a problem.

  4. I have recently bought some gold top optodisk "retail" from meritline for $1.07 US. so far I have made a few coasters at 4x. and i have noticed some imperfections visible on the disk... i have used the iptodisc 1x generic and burned about 45 out of 50 at 2x... they work pretty good on my dru-500.

  5. If I burn at 1x I should have zero problems then.

    I don't mind waiting.

I had some gold topped Optodiscs made by CMC MAG. They were rated at 1x and burned at 2x with the firmware hack.

They played well on my DVD player without errors.

Actually, I am a little wary of Optodiscs. Even though this topic concerns DVD-Rs, I bought ten Optodisc DVD-RWs for my 104. They are the prettiest coasters I own.

No. Optodisc makes Optodisc DVD-Rs. They're also making +R, +RW, -RW, and -RAM these days. www.optodisc.com

These are excellent discs (at least the gold-topped and blue-topped ones). Not a single coaster to date. I used to buy these by the 500s when they were in stock. Having a hard time getting any right now.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

You have no idea what you're talking about, but at least you're not advertising (for once).

    Matsushita makes discs for Panasonic.

I doubt this shop4tech guy knows anything about media at all.

BTW for those peeps wondering from the other locked thread, MBI is Moeser Baer India. I think they just got the media ID and since it said MBI they posted it like that.

Moeser Baer is a new DVD media Maker (started production in 2003).

  13. Optodiscs are ok. It'd play fine on my Pioneer and Apex, but failed to play on my friends HP DVD-Rom and my GE player.

Hey shop4tech, exactly what did Optodisc manufacture for Panasonic? Matter of fact, you still haven't answered what Lead Data manufactured for Pioneer. Where do you get these corrolations from?

This guy is probably just Jomo with another name.

  14. I haven't had any problems with the optodisc dvd-rs. Both the 1X and 4X have worked great for me. Great price too.

I bought a spindle of 50 gold-top Optodisc. Burned first 2 at 1X and 2X with Pioneer 105 (firmware 1.30 hacked), but these won't play on my Apex AD-703 (will read on my DVD-ROM, though). Upgraded firmware to 1.33 hacked. Now, all burns at 2X can play just fine on my Apex.

I've also burned 50+ Ritek G03s and 50+ LD 1X discs at 2X. They worked with my Apex without any problem.
