If you take a look on the media board you can see that some people think Princo is "shit" and some people say it works fine.
However, most people are happy with Ritek. It all depends on your standalone.
Experiment... -
You should go and get a sample pack from Rima or Meritline to see which one works the best for you.
There are many many people that say Princo is crap. The two that came with my sample pack both crapped out on me. -
Maybe it's just my imagination, but most of the Princo critics run Sony dvd-r's....the Pioneer guys have less problems.
I have a Pioneer and have gone through a 50 pack with zero problems.
Coincidence?
What system are you running. -
pinoeer ao5
discs work better on tosiba (non progressive scan) then on panisonic..is there a way to disable progressive scan?? -
I will know the answer next week when the 100 Princo 4x DVD-R I ordered arrives. So far I have burned mostly Ritek without any problems so far with the media.
-
I used both over 6000 discs used. Riteks are better, they work instantly when put into a player. The Princos takes a while. But have no problems burning Princos on Pioneer a03,a04 and a05. And Panasonic set-top dvd-r/ram recorder.

I've got an A05 and have bought more Princo 1x, 2x and 4x media (which I burn at full speed with DVD decrypter) and have never had a single problem.
I've gone through at least 75+ princo 4x discs. I don't know if it's a system thing, an authoring problem, or made a bad bunch came out in the past. But in my hands there's nothing wrong with Princo media. -

i do have a high def tv..sony 65" WS
the discs work fine on my tosiba player...
anyways i ordered a 50 pack or ritek if they work fine ill get another 100..
thx for all the help -
I started out with Princo and none of the disks would burn to the end of the disk correctly, I would always get errors if I tried to max it out. They would freeze up on the last 30min of the movie.
I switched to Ritek and they work flawless. All my stand alone players play them and I have never came across any burn errors or freezing while playback. I would suggest Ritek all day, good price for good quality. -

Riteks are generally recognized as the king of cheap media. You'll hear plenty of complaints about many of the other cheaper brands, but very few about the riteks. Best disk for the money, IMHO.

You'll find all the ammo, uh I mean info, against how bad Princo's are, if you do a search of the forum with these synonymous words
princo bad media
All synonyms-----------~~~Spidey~~~

yes thats true the princos work for about an hour and then the last 30 minutes every 10 seconds i get a black screen then it comes back ect ect and cleaning it dont work..
riteks should be here tommorow -
There are known problems with cheap media writing past 4GB. Nobody was immune. Even the well-respected Verbatim has issues with this on their newest CMC media.
Also consider firmware and burner hardware. They BOTH make a difference when burning cheap discs.
The problems have mostly ceased with 4x media.
I've burned thousands of Princos (about 600 4x ones) and thousands of Ritek. I disliked Ritek most because of the cheap construction, but their new branded discs (at least the 4x ones) work just fine. Princo was constructed better, but the dyes on old ones were sometimes imperfect, and led to bad burns (the fix was to keep content under 4GB).
Blaming the media is bad form in general, as most complaints are REALLY due to bad hardware/firmware, user error, or misunderstandings in usage. I tend to dismiss most griping I hear on these forums.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
I have a Sony DRU500a, and the 1x princo media i've used worked great, as it did on my old pioneer a04. However, Ritek media was a totally different story (at least for Back to The Future DVD which i maed a back up of), which gets random skips, etc.
Optodisc works fine too, and its quite affordable. -
I have burned hundreds of Ritek +R's and +RW's with no problems. I like this brand a lot!
-
i have a pinoeer a05 and the disc that came with it pinoeer 4x worked perfect on my progressive scan unlike the prionco (which i burned both the same way)
but i do see ure point ..not my case though.
