Hello, do most players that play VCD also play XVCD?
I'm looking at getting one of them acoustic solution dvd players (UK) it plays VCDs with a hack but I would like to know if I play around with resolutions/bitrates if it is likely to play XVCDs.
Just about all questions which I wanted to know have been answered already on the site but I didn't find a great deal about XVCD compatability.![]()

An XVCD is basically an mpeg1 that is burned to disk as a VCD, but the specifications vary from true VCD. That could include the either (or both) the bitrate and resolution being higher or lower than the standard. Many players will play some type of XVCD, but just how high or low a bitrate or at what resolutions would be difficult to say, not without some extensive testing. I guess what I'm saying is that XVCD is not a standard, it can be just about anything.
If you know what type of XVCD you want to create then you might ask about that type of compatibility, you have a chance of getting a better answer."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -
You can also check the DVD Players reviews to the left. Many list the max bitrate that some users have been able to make for x(S)VCDs. But keep in mind that these are users opinions/personal observations. And they often contradict each other.
In my experience the question is can the player read CDRs and VCDs. If so then it can play xVCDs at lower bitrates, and normally at a higher bitrate up to a point.
