i guess i just don't understand how you can be that afraid to go somewhere in the city that you live.

See thats what I don't get. Would I be right in assuming that there a far more injuries and fatalaties to children involving handguns than there are involving fireworks in the USA. You just make sure you dont sell fireworks to kids, and anyone caught doing so gets hit really hard. Surely a Gun is far more lethal than a firework, whoevers hands its in.

Craig, you are absolutely correct. It does make more sense to ban guns.

BUT.......

It is written into our constitution that we have the right to bear arms and the gun industry makes sure that it gives millions of dollars every year to our elected officials to ensure that no laws are passed that would hurt the sales of handguns and semi-automatic rifles.

As I said before, I don't own one, but it is nice to know that I am allowed to have one if I desire.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a bloodthirsty American gun nut. I believe that with this right comes a great responsibility. Everyone who owns a gun should be required to register is, keep it locked up in an approved gun safe, keep it unloaded, and keep a trigger lock in place when not in use.
I am also for a liscensing system, similar to what you must do to drive a car that requires you to pass a series of tests, both written and physical before you can purchase a gun. A psychological test also wouldn't hurt.

A gun is a great sporting weapon, it can also be used in self defense. However like all other tools, it can be used for evil. Case in point, I have had one cousin and one uncle that have both used guns to comit suicide, which by the way is also their right.

BUT... I have another cousin that is currently in prison for shooting someone while robbing a store. He didn't have that right.

Will this issue be resolved in my lifetime, probably not.
