    I have a bunch of MPEG-2 files and I want to know the details of there makeup, that is are they CBR, VBR, the size, frame rate and so on.

    Properties under Windows tells nothing.

    How can I do this?

    look in tools for "bitrate viewer" which will tell you pretty well everything you wanted ..
