  1. Hi all:
where I can find MPEG2 codec? I want to convert my video (720*480)into NTSC SVCD format by TMPGEnc, however it couldn't be opened, I think it's because I don't have MPEG2 code installed, I even can't play it.

    thanks

  2. install windvd... it installs mpeg2 capability with it... so wmp will be able to open it. only downfall is that if you remove windvd, it will also remove it from wmp.

Do you mean you have a video file (MPEG-1/AVI) and want to convert it to MPEG-2/SVCD? If so you do not need a MPEG-2 Codec in order to encode to MPEG-2/SVCD in TMPGEnc.

In fact , I encoded a family video into SVCD format by EMPGEnc, recently, I need to re-encod it into VCD format( I have deleted the original AVI file captured from DV. the only thing left is the encoded MPEG2 format file).
But I found out I can't open it by TMPGEnc anymore, It tells me "can't open or unsupported".
During this period, one of the component's trial version is expeired . I assume it MPEG2 codec.
I downloaded winDVD as told by some folks from this forum, but I still can't open and encode it into VCD format.
    any suggestion?

    thanks

  5. Sounds like you just need to re-download TMpegEnc to reenable the MPEG2 support (it expires every 30 days due to "trial" status).

TMPGEnc can encode to MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, but it cannot decode MPEG-2 (btw it can decode MPEG-1). WinDVD can play MPEG-2 files, but it is not an encoder.

What you need for converting from MPEG-2 to MPEG-1 is DVD2AVI (for decoding MPEG-2) and TMPGEnc (for encoding to MPEG-1). A detailed tutorial can be found here.

  7. email me for a codec

if your running XP be sure to tell me

I can do MPEG-2 to MPEG-1 with TMPGEnc - as long as I have good codec (not some DVD installed one)
