  1. Hello every1

    I just wonder...

My brother made a RJ 45 network.

He says that he only needs to use 4 of the cables to get it to work.

Usually there is 8 cables and i use all of them myself but he says it is not nesseseray.

    Is this true or not?

Anyway it dont work for him but he says he has done it many times..

    Thanks for any help!

  2. What do you mean by cables?

    1) Do you mean that he is making his own RJ-45 cables and is only connecting 4 of the 8 wires to either plug end?

    2) Or do you have a 8-port hub and are only connecting 4 ethernet cables to it?

I assume it's #1, in which case I would recommend properly connecting all eight wires to the plug ends.

It's 8 conductor wire, but the data is only carried thru 4 of them, 1-2-3 and 6. These have to be two twisted pairs, rather than any 4, as the twist resolves interference, crosstalk, etc. If you had 4 conductor, twisted pair, wire, it would work. Bear in mind that, without a hub, you need a crossover wire. (Peer-to-peer.)
