  1. I converted an avi file to ntsc dvd and for about the first 35 minutes the audio was out of sync with the video. Then all of a sudden the audio and video were in sync and stayed that way for the rest of the movie. I converted the avi using tmpgenc. The avi was 23.976 fps so I selected the movie type to be film instead of video. By selecting this, it allows me to have the 3:2 when played back option for the encode mode on the video tab. If I select video as the type instead of film, I don't have the 3:2 pull down option but the inverse 3:2 option is available. I also noticed that when I select film as the movie type, tmpgenc automatically selects the inverse telecine filter on the advanced tab. I have to manually unselect it. Now to the point of the this post. Is there a problem with tmpgenc because it selects ivtc for a file that doesn't need it? How do I get the audio to sync but not have jerky video? Should I select video as the source type instead of film and set the encode mode to interlace and the select the 3:2 pulldown filter on the advanced tab of tmpgenc?

  2. I am still not sure why tmpgenc wants to do ivtc but I found out the problem with the audio sync. The player I was using doesn't handle 3:2 pulldown well at all. Two other players played it just fine.
