  2. Check the 'tools' section under video encoders. Most of the good ones, you'll have to pay for. In the 50-70 buck range, for mpeg-2, good options are tmpgnec and CCE Basic. There's also at least one freeware encoder listed (bbmpeg, I think). You could try it if you don't have the cash.

  3. bbMPEG is the only freeware MPEG2 encoder I know of. TMPGenc can encode MPEG1 thou (no 30day limit). Depending on what you want to do MPEG1 might be all you need. Remember you can make 720x480 MPEG1 videos and author them to DVD. However, you can only have one audio track (and I doubt you can have subs).

    For MPEG2 you will have to pay somebody something. TMPGenc, CCE, Main concept, Ulead, etc. all cost money.

    I thought that was to allow TMPGenc to open mpeg2 files for re-conversion... not as a freeware exporter for mpeg2.
