  1. I found one other post with the similar problem and no resolution. Hopefully I can provide enough info for troubleshooting.

Sony TRV-27 DV capture via firewire card stops after 20 - 30 seconds. Capture software tape counter continues but the video monitor within the capture s/w freezes and the audio stops. I've used VideoStudio 7, Scenalyzer, Pixela (Sony s/w),.. still happens.

    Specs:
1394 card came with Soyo Fire Dragon motherboard
    Intel 1.6Ghz
    1 Gb ram
    2 x 40 Gb Ultra DMA 100 Hdd
    Creative Soundblaster Live! audio
    ATI 7500 Video Card - 2 monitors

I make sure the hdd is not fragmented and there's nothing else running. I've uploaded before with my older Sony analog camcorder and an ATI Vivo card. I replaced the ATI card, camcorder, and software and now I'm stuck.

    Ideas appreciated.

  2. I contacted Sony support and received some direction. Apparently Sony DV camcorders only support 4pin to 4pin firewire cables. Even though Belkin and others advertise Sony on their 4-6pin version, Sony doesn't use the extra pins (which are for power). I'm going to swap out the cable and give it a shot.

    I'll post the result.

Don't know whether this would make much of a difference. I am using a cable that came supplied with my firewire card on my sony camcorder and it works just fine. I will have to check the cable but it is unlikely they would have supplied me with a 4-pin cable.

  4. Thanks for the help. There is a menu setting on the camcorder that says "DV Out". I set that to yes and still doesn't work. Capture stops after 10 seconds or so.
