A newbie with a few questions please?

Hi Everyone, first I want to thank you for all the wonderful information here on this site, it is simply terrific.

WinXP SP1
DVD+r/rw HP 300i
P3 750 stand alone machine solely for burning

DVD Decrypter
Instant Copy
PDI2ISO

Questions:

The original instructional I received was to go through the above three programs and then use Dameon Tools. However I found that eliminating this last step and reopening DVD Decrypter and burning to a DVD+R works for me (ie no coasters yet and only a few movies done). Being new - is there any reason not to burn using DVD Decrypter?

On one DVD I used the above process but when I inserted it in the dvd player (stand alone not PC) it showed closed captions even though this feature was shut off in the player, but when same DVD was placed in my PC DVD it did not show the CC. Is there something I missed when using one of the programs that would not show the CC?

Another movie, dual layer, no copy write protection, HP’s RecordNow gives me an error message about packet writing and DLA disc’s can not be copied but packet Writing software will allow copying of files to a recordable disc. Installed Nero and did a full copy, but said the dvd was not the correct size and to insert another medium. What should I use for this DVD?

Just wanted to reassure you that your post is being read. I'm in way over my head here, (I'm new, too) so I will be of no help to you. Perhaps you have stumped everyone.

Hey, for the dual layer disc, you must process the files in Instant Copy.

Do this by:

1. Ripping the files with DVD Decrypter in "File" mode to somewhere on your Hard Drive.

2. Open the files in Instant Copy and let it do it's thing.

It makes more sense to rip in "file" mode when it's a 2 layer DVD and "ISO" mode when it's a single layer DVD.

Tell me how it goes...

Thank you SO MUCH for the reply! I did do that - but then tried PDI2ISO to get back on disk. I assume that Instsant Copy will allow me to do this as well, but how?

Thanks again - my next task is getting my son's basic training grad video on dvd.......any pointers?
