    Greetings from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Is anybody out there successfully using Formac's Devideon drive to burn SVCD's? While everybody seems quite crazy about using DVD media, blank DVD's are expensive and not that easy to find south of the border...

For those not in the know, Formac bundles their own software to encode SVCD's directly from a .mov file without any of the hassles of having to mux, demux, decode, encode, etc. In theory, it should work fine. I actually downloaded their software, which has a "trial" mode, allowing you to decode a short portion of a movie.

The process produced a .bin file, which I mounted on my desktop using Toast Titanium. I then made a disc copy of the master. Regretfully, it didn't play on my Sony DVD player.

Any comments? Success or failure stories would be appreciated.

  2. Hello. Your Sony DVD player may not be compatible with SVCDs. But if it is, then you may have mesed up when burning it. I figured out that when burning SVCDs with toast, you often times get a non-compliant SVCD as a finished product (coaster). So I turned to MissingMediaBurner http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/9801 which works like a charm... usually. If you haev a bin/cue file you can use them to burn an SVCD w/ MMB. Or if you just have a bin, extract the mpeg2 file, then burn with MMB. Hope this helps...
