  1. Any suggestions on how to convert DV that was captured/transfered from a digital camcorder to Divx? I tried VirtualDub, but it can't open the DV.

  2. Couldn't you just save it as an avi or something from the program that you used to import the dv from? say if you used program x could you just import the dv and then save as something that vdub can read.

  3. DV Avi are just a thin wrapper around the raw DV data and VirtualDub can't see them because it doesn't use DirectShow and therefore can't use the Microsoft Codec to open files of the dvsd type.

    Your options are :
    1. Open it using AviSynth and frameserve it to VirtualDub
    2. Install the Mainconcept DV Codec and the files will play nicely.
    3. Download the free Canopus DV codec and change the type of the AVI file from dvds to the canopus id (sorry I cant remember it right now)

I haven't tried option one a lot because I didnt want to use the MS codec anyway.

The only problem I've had with option 2 and 3 is that if I use the "DivX Audio" codec, virtualdub stalls at frame 0 and I need to brutally terminate it. If I use the standard MP3 codec (that provides very low quality bitrates) everything works like a charm.

    hope this helps
