    Greetings from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

I was unsuccessful in playing a SVCD disc I encoded recently on my DVD player, a Sony DVP-NS315. Upon checking the compatibility list, however, it was listed as "compatible." Furthermore, someone added a report claiming that he was successful in playing SVCDs on the player, but only when using the "VCD header trick."

Can anybody think what this might refer to, specifically? If it's helpful, I'm using Mac software to author my VCD's and while picture quality is OK at VCD resolution, I'd like to explore the higher resolution available in SVCD's.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. you remux your mpeg2 as a non standard VCD Mpeg1, easly done on windows using TMPGEnc, I have no clue how you would do it on a Mac. Goto the Guides section, they'll explain how to do it w/ windoz

Since you are using Mac software, you may want to post future postings in the Mac Video forum. Its an all-inclusive forum where you will get a better response for the mac related softwares

that being said, the main problem with playback is how you burn the svcd

Typically those who burn these disks in Toast report problems with compatiblity of players

for example i have APEX 5131, it will not play a Toast burned SVCD
however, burn the same file using Missing Media Burner, or Firestarter and it will play

tell me more about the source, how you burned it etc and i can help you out more.

    thanks

    Success!

I'm happy to report that I was able to convert a short MOV into a SVCD that played properly in my Sony DVD player, using MMT.

Upon return from a biz trip, I will summarize my procedure and share it with all.

    Thanks again,

Geeee. How useful. Please read the forum rules before posting. We don't need winblows answers in the mac forum. We don't want to lower ourselves to that level. :P

this was stuck in the PeeCee dominated SVCD forum, so it was moved because of the lack of response and the reply you just pointed out!

  10. I have a Daewoo 5800 and this is what i can do to get SVCD playback.
MPEG-2 file must be in BIN format (vcdtools x does the trick)
In Toast use Multitrack XA mode and drop in this little file called" First T01 Mode2 2352.iso" then drop in the BIN file and burn.
I have another DVD player, but it doesn't work on that one.
the big problem is where to get the " First T01 Mode2 2352.iso" file.
I happened to pick it up a while back in one of the newsgroups, like alt.binaries.mac.applications

well how can anyone (who has intelligence higher than a tree stump) EVER say ANYTHING good about a product micro$lop has spewed out of their worthless existance?? (windows and anything associated with it) and honestly i hate to sound like a prick, but if you have a dvd player that doesnt play svcd, buy a real dvd player ( AND NO NOT APEX, THAT BRAND IS CHEAP FOR A REASON), those vcd "header tricks" seldom work properly and well, if ever. so the best option is to convert to vcd and suffer the horrible consequences of the quality decreasing a SIGNIFICANT amount (use ffmpegx or mediapipe to do so, but if you do and you have a slower computer ie ANY g3 or low level g4, it could take a few days)...
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

  12. If you take the elementary streams of an SVCD and plug into FFMPEGX's Video Tools, mux as VCD, is this the same effect, on the Mac, as the Windoz's TMPGEnc's "VCD Header Trick?"
