  1. Oh the possibilities? Is it? Does Microsoft Xbox obtain the compatibility to play Vcds? Or just the expensive DVD.

    Is there a trick? Thoughts....

  2. Straight out the box, only thing it can play is DVD movies. However with the use of a modchip and some software you can play vcd/svcd. But one bad thing about that, the xbox drive itself can't read cdrs, so you will have to share your pcdrom, with your xbox and read the media from there.

stating the xbox drive can't read cdrs is untrue, since it depends on which type that comes with the xbox (samsung, phillips or thompson). my xbox with a samsung drive can read cdrs, and as you mentioned with modchip and xboxmediaplayer it can play almost all type of medias (mpeg1, mpeg2, mp3, mpeg4, mov etc.)

Remember that most CDRW's CAN be read by even the crappy Thomson drive... Still need a modchip etc to play VCD/SVCD via XBMP but it's another option.

Now why do ppl go critiquing everything i say?, and yes, i should have been more clear in my statement, Xboxs that come with thompsons drives, cannot read cdr. Can a guy make a mistake everynow and then?

BtW. Im not to sure on the Legal status of Modchips, but you can check around about flashing tsop's if you have any technical experience with soldering and save your self a wad of cash. = )

Hey SquirrelXss - calm down... Read the post properly, I was just stating that themajority of CDR 'W's (not CDR's) can be read by the Xbox - something which you didn't mention in your original post.

I'm not 'critiquing' anything or anybody - just adding a useful fact to the thread ...
