  3. your mpeg2 needs to be in dvd format, to do that you need dvd authoring software to be able to create some vob ifo and vub files to place in the video_ts folder. Read the guides to the left on dvd authoring for more information and to get an idea of the best dvd authoring software for your needs.

For instance, if you want to keep things simple, a program like ulead's movie factory2 or tmpgenc author should accept your mpeg2 and make compliant files that nero can burn.

Please disregard what hotwings posted, its apparent he must be thinking of something else. Do what the first guy told you. Go and buy the MPEG-2 codec for Nero. No it doesn't come with it, only MPEG-1, thats how they make their money. The codec will allow you to create SVCD as well as DVDs. It should accept your MPEG-2 file with no problem and burn to DVD. Simple enough huh?

  7. @jdizzy40, if what DV2DVDman wants is to burn onto DVD media then what hotwings says is perfectly correct. However, if DV2DVDman wants to burn to CD media, then the file must be encoded to (S)VCd standards first and Nero will burn it. The Nero codec is required if you want Nero to do the encoding for you to the relevant standard. In general I would advise against this as the quality of output from it encoder is far from the best. Try TmpGenc or maybe mainconcept (free trial versions available) along with help from the numerous guides on this site.

@DV2DVDman, what is your target media, DVD or CD?

    anyway, take a look here:

  8. You need to author the DVD. Authoring is the process of converting your elementary streams (video, audio, subs, menus, backgrounds, etc) into the VOBs and IFO files need for a DVD. There are several authoring programs out there.

If all you want is a DVD play (no menus, special features, etc) try IFOEdit. It's freeware. Other wise you might want to look into DVD Lab, which has a free fully functional 30day demo for d/load.

You authoring software will create the VIDEO_TS folder that you can burn. Note that burning with nero can be tricky. Make sure you have the NEWEST ver, some of the older verisons had problems burning DVDs.

DV2DVDMAN's last part of his question asked "WHat program can MPEG-2 DVD onto media that is capable of playing in his DVD player" quote. Some folks want to take a simple question and turn it in to a confusing mess for a person who just wants to burn an MPEG-2 file to DVD. No you don't need to take all the steps listed, thtas the long route. My God there are several programs Neo DVD. DVDit, My Sonic DVD that will take a MPEG-2 file and burn directly to DVD without the complicated process of using some tools that take hours to learn. Not everyone spends their whole day in front of a computer. Some people come to this site and just want a quick solution to their problem. If you don't know or do not use the simple approach I would suggest stop complicating peoples lives. I've seen so many people get frustrated because 10 different people try to tell someone 10 different ways how to author a DVD. Let's face it. DVD burners, (the cheap) ones have dropped to $150.00. And everyone is going to quickly find out that creating a DVD back-up or authored DVD is not as simple as one click using DVD X Copy Express. Don't automatically assume that the person you are communicating with knows as much as you. I've seen it over and over on this site. KISS. "Keep it Simple Stupid"

Not for burning as SVCD or DVD it doesn't, only for encoding to those formats does it need the plugin.

    Again, all correct.

There are many ways to do what DV2DVDMAN wants, without knowing him a and his needs lot better its difficult to be sure which is the most appropriate appraoch. As for media in a DVD player, many will play SVCD on CD, a few will play full DVD format on CD, some will even play raw mpegs on CD or DVD media, so the question itself can have several answers.

No need to diss the other posters that provided suitable responses just because your 1st response was wide of the mark.

  11. jdizzy, while I understand you trying to 'keep it simple' I am afraid that you are off the mark. What I suggested was pretty barebones stuff. Ulead and tmpgenc author are as simple as it comes in that they accept the mpeg2 file without the user having to split it into two elementary streams. I am sure there are other methods, just suggested these since they come with trials. And no, I would never in good conscience recommend Nero for mpeg2 encoding.

I have a problem which extends from this process. I have an mpeg-2 file, and the dimensions are 640x272, 2.35:1. I have tried authoring using IFOEdit, but the result is horizontal green lines and garbled, not resemblence of the original footage. The sound is OK, however. I was wondering how to convert this video file, perhaps to make it letterbox, so I can use either Ulead DVD Workshop, or Ulead DVD Movie Factory, as both of those stretch my movie to fullscreen. Is there some other program I should use? Thanks in advance for any help, as I will continue searching the forums...

wienerbeast, first let me say that it is considered bad form to ask questions like this in another posters thread, it is considered 'hijacking'. It is generally preferred that you start a new topic.
Having said that, lets try and answer your query. I think you will have to re-encode to a correct DVD resolution. I would reccomend using Tmpgenc for its ease of use, its low price (trial version available) and its many resize options. It can sometimes be awkward to get it to open mpeg-2 files as source material though. There are many threads discussing this but if a forum search doesnt give you the info you need please start a new topic on your problems.

    Hope this helps
