    I would like to rip audio from avi and mpg files and be left with just the video.....can this be done with virtualdub...if so could you explain....thanks....much appreciated.

    i dont know about mpeg,but for avi its easy.
    use nandub or vdub
    audio and video direct stream copy
    audio > no audio
    save avi

    Tmpgenc for mpeg

    Open Tmpgenc, exit wizard ( if if comes up), file-tools, demux.
    Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.
