  1. i've been searching for an answer and have yet to find one that can help me... i'm trying to convert .avi to .mpg with out getting a sound issue. here's a quick rundown of what i've done already. I have an .avi file and using quicktime pro, i tried to convert to toast - i got an error about compression or something... so i saved it as a .mov and then tried to convert to toast (.mpg) and it converted it fine but the audio st-st-studders. i'm fairly new to video in regards to converting... i've made vcds and svcds before but only using video that i captured myself. as far as software goes, i obviously have qt and toast, i also have ffmpegx (although i really don't know how to use it) and mencoder (but again, don't know anything about it). and I really have very little clue about terminal... so dispite all of this, if anyone has any suggestion, it'll mean a lot to me that i get this video converted to vcd/svcd...

    thanking you in advance,
a very stressed out, but still smiling, angie :P

This is a DivX avi? There's a known issue with DivX movies containing MP3 audio. If this is the problem, the DivX 5 for mac download contains a program which will fix this for you. try http://www.divx.com if you think this sounds like your problem.

The latest Divx 5 supposedly allows Divx AVI files to play in QT without the sound issues of previous versions. You don't need to convert to Divx, as it already is in that format. another option is to use the Divx validator tool that shipped with previous versions of Divx 5 for Mac to make the divx readable with QT without sound issues. One caveat, though, the QT Toast VCD converter is of pretty poor quality, and you'll get better (and faster) results using ffmpegX. Hope this helps.

  5. i'm not having any problems with the sound of the .avi in quicktime - it's perfect - i can even convert it to .mov and the sound is still great... it's when i convert to .mpg (using quicktime or toast) that the sound studders...

  7. What I think you need is the app DivxDoctor 2 and its available from 3ivx.com as a free download all you do is drag your avi onto the window and it creates a .mov quicktime file (also d/l the 3ivx codecs and the wma audio codec while your there (you will need them)) that plays fine in quicktime. All you need to do then is output the movie from quicktime as MPG for VCD.

If the the audio is AC3 you will need mAC3dec 1.5.2 from 3ivx.com to convert the audio into an aif file this can then be imported as an audio track in quicktime and syncs automatically with the mov.

    Hope this helps ya
