  1. Hi,

I hope this is the right forum, ive search around for a few days and I appolgize if im wrong. Anyway,

I bought a new 16x dvd-rom drive from Artec. www.artecusa.com. Not much tech support available online - so I sent them an email but im seeking help here too. Ive got several dozen dvd-r's that I must access, but when I put them into the drive - the drive thinks they're audio cd's. I seemed to have found a workaround but it only worked once. repeated ejecting and reinsterting the same disc). I dont want to keep doing that.

    Any help is very appreciated.

I haven't seen it with DVDR's, but if you have an old or crappy CDROM drive and an open-session disc it'll be displayed as audio disc in the drive.

You could also try your discs in another drive, so you know if it's your drive or not.

    Does your machine dual boot?
I ask because I once had a SCSI 6X DVD-ROM (Pioneer 606 player DVDROM computer drive) that did just what yours did under 98se, but would see the DVD-R's in the same drive when WIN XP was booted instead..
    MAYBE there's a firmware update?
But reloading yer OS will fix the problem

  4. No this is not a dual boot. I tried the dvd-rs in another drive and they worked fine. I have contacted the manufacture and they advised to return the drive for exchange with a new one. So hopefully thats the answer.

  5. Sounds like the drive is a dud since you have to eject it several times to get it to work. Definitely sounds like a disk recognition with the drive.
You might want to get a Pioneer or a Liteon drive. I have never heard of
Artec but the drive looks like a Cyberdrive model.

  6. I am checking out the DVD r media I have on a few other pc's. If I get the save thing, then its the disks, if not, then i'll be returning the drives. I give an update soon.

Your discs may only have UDF file system, and not ISO, which is what Windows needs to access the data.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  8. It was the dvd-rs, something must have gone wrong during the writting process. Not sure what, out of 31 dvd-rs, 9 dont work. And all were burned the same way. Oh well. NExt time I'll test the completed burn disc before I trash any files on my pcs.
