In the past i have converted some divx files to svcd, but recently i have been trying to convert some xvid files and have been having problems. First of all i cant even load my xvid files into virtualdub to make a wave, i get an error saying that it couldnt load a decompressor for xvid. Ok so i thought ill just let tmpgenc just convert the audio for me. I can load the video with Tmp but when i begin to encode i get an error message saying " The error occured when ACM was initialized". Does anyone know what is wrong? Do i need to do something differently for xvid files? Thanks in advance.

  2. You need the xvid codec. I believe it is available in the tools section. If not go to the software section of www.divx-digest.com and download it there.

I had the xvid codec installed thats why i was so confused on the matter. However after looking through some guides I found that setting Directshow Multimedia File Reader to top priorty under VFAPI plugins might solve the problem. After doing this i was able to get it to start encoding. The encode has about 45 mins left so ill soon see if it works. Thanks anyway.

And another thing i forgot to mention. I downloaded goldwave and it was able to convert the audio. So i still dont know whats up with virtualdub, but i think i like goldwave better anyway.

Ok so my movie i just converted worked however my other ones im trying dont due to the fact that they have ac3 audio. I do have the ac3 filter installed but i still cant even open the files in virtualdub and golwave acts like its opening it up but stops at 100%. Can anyone help me figure out a way to convert the ac3 sound to a wave? Ive tried numerous programs, looked through guides and scoured the message boards, but i cant find anything specific to this error im getting.

I use Goldwave for all audio extraction and never have any problem. Did you scan for bad frames?
