frozen frames and then a skip with DVD-R and stand alone

I use Tmpge and UL Workshop and then burn with my new Sony 510 writer.
The DVD of course plays great on computer but in my DVD player it will play along then freeze and skip. Is this a bit rate issue? or is there enougther area I need to look at. DVDs are done at 6000 on Tmpge and am not sure if the worshop redoes them or not as I have read here on other notes.
