  1. I use Zoomplayer to open/play my files
I can't open some mpg & an .avi file in it
So I tried Virtualdub. I get message in VirtualDub saying..
    Cannot determine filetype of filepath\filename

-dragging it to 'AviCodec' also gives a similar message...
"Opening Error Cannot playback the file. the format is not supported for filepath\filename

Normally avicodec would have told me if its supported or not on my system.

    I just can't open them...usually .mpg.

    Can anyone suggest something....

Would very much appreciate your feedback & help.
    Am using Win98. Cpu: P4

    Thankyou.

  3. secretagent ...
I'm having a problem getting Gspot to run. -it says "gspot.exe is linked to missing export mfc42.dll :6880."
mfc42.dll exists on my systemWin98. -I even copied it to the gspot directory.
-Besides I used the installer so I shouldn't have a problem...as a problem is described when using the zipped archive &/or the files not being in the same folder.

    thanks...!!

edit:just d/loaded the rar version & tried with that...same message..

if it will open in windows media player it may be a wmv or a asf file type.
try vdub 1.4c or get stoik video converter from www.stoik.com and see what happens

  5. secretagent..,
no, they don't open in media player also.
concerning the .asf , .wmv..thing; the only possibility is the last .wmv codec
(WM9Codecs.exe)which could not be installed on my system since I don't have MediaPlayer 7.1 installed.
-but that too is ruled out since...Vdub gives a different message for, .wmv/asf files.
-besides normal asf/wmv I can play fine in Zoom..since they are on my system.

    thanks...

Since G-Spot won't work try this one:

    http://www.geocities.com/cplarosa/movieid/

It's very small and very quick. One issue: It can't handle a 2 gig file.

    Goodluck!

Well, at least I helped you determine the file type BUT I can't say I can see anything wrong here. To me, at least, it looks like 2 mpg files that are encoded as VCD-PAL format. EVERYTHING should play these files.

Anyone else see something I don't!?

    Goodluck!
