Frustrated trying to find the problem..please help!

I found some mpeg files and downloaded those to view. But, I have a problem with them and for the life of me, I cant figure out what is causing this. what it will do is when i load it up it will load the first frame, but will not play it, it just immediately goes to stop, then if i move to say the middle, and press play it will just go back to the first frame and stop agian.

I have been able to open it up in V-Dub, and its all there, but i dont want it in avi format unless i have to do it that way, it wont direct stream to a .mpg.

I hope this didnt just make it sound more complicated than it is hehe.............
i got it to work by using TMPgEnc, and it played. the volume is way out of sync, but it didnt really matter that much because it was only WWF wrestling, and not a movie.

Sorry if this took too much of your time, by the the info will probably come in handy another time for me, if you have any info about it. 'Cause i convert all DivX to VCD any how.

sounds to me like these files have a nasty bumper at the beginning...get vcdgear 2.0 with gui and run a mpeg -> mpeg conversionm, while choose "fix mpeg errors" and "remove CD-i MPEG bumper"

Have you tried frame serving with flask and capturing with tmpgenc/lsx/cce??
