I think it's a great system. I'm sure I'll be the first guy on my block to have a warning posted next to my name!
Confidentiality. Who needs it. This is an anonymous forum. It's not like most of us really know who each other are. If you get caught, be an adult about the situation and wear your Badge of Shame. Take responsibility for your own actions (dear God, now there's an idea).
As time passes, however, we must all be cleansed of our sins. Here are some suggestions:
Make a donation to the website
Post reports on media and hardware
Vote for Tgpo
Bash raldasec regularly :P
Seriously. It's a good idea. I'm probably just as guilty as the next anonymous user, but it's still a good idea.

i know i should have receive a warning and i deserved it
i personaly apologize to txpharoah
before that incident i had respect his judgement
i overreacted to that stupid debate "which format is better"
somebody always overreact when that subject is brought up
i got a tendency to be a little sensitive when people say things about me
i guess i got that from when i was little, everybody used to tease me. my other 3 brothers was a little slow, so everybody assume that i was too, even though i was the exact opposite. when i got older i got "bigger and meaner" so the teasing stop
But why wasn't jeex warned
he made some racially inflammatory comments that had nothing to do vcds, dvds, etc.
and he obviously was insinuating the n word when he quoted the word "minority"
at least the stupid decisions that i made was on topic

Baldrick,
You've got a conundrum, haven't you? If you flag the bad guys, someone might say "Why should we listen to this jerk?"
If you don't flag 'em, the "Report this post..." line gets clogged, thinking you should have.
Are the Yellow Cards to be attached to every post a member makes?
"But I can easily make it confidential....if you would prefer that." As far as I am concerned, it IS your site. You make the rules, we abide by them. I don't think they're so stringent. In some cases, I think you guys bend over backwards to let steam be blown off. Some threads do go too far, but not too much to handle. Some, which I would personally boot someone for, carry on without too much additional flameworks. When they do go too, too, far, a mod locks it, no hard feelings in print.
Well, maybe the one on DVD-R, +R. If I bought what I am thinking was the wrong format, I might get heated, too, trying to convince everyone I'm right, and you're wrong.
The argument with kennyshin might have been carried out with a little more tact.
I do NOT think the Mod was biased, but explanations could have been clearer. And, true, it did deteriorate badly. Actually, I don't know why I even read it, except for the tittilation factor.
Anyhow, my 2 cents worth.

if the user has nothing to hide,
Shoozle,
I DO wish people would quit using that phrase. That is the basis of EVERY damn law that has been passed on the internet and on the street. "Stop people randomly, walking down the sidewalk. After all, if they've got nothing to hide....!"
"Pry into their bedrooms. After all, if they've got nothing to hide.....!"
At the moment, there is a Senator out in the Midwest who has proposed allowing Copyright holders to set up bogus sites for downloads to be able to send malicious code to you to, in his words, "destroy your computer". After all, you ARE taking the food out of Michael Eisner, et al's childrens mouths when you join a P2P network.
Do not give the corporations any more ammo than they already have by saying, " if they have nothing to hide". EVERYONE has something to hide. Even if it's that you wet the bed till you were 12 years old.
-
two issues
one. bashing raldasec should mandate an immediate redcard. newbie bashing should be expressly prohibited without the consent of senator orrin hatch.
two. i agree with others. if this is baldricks own little fantasy island in cyberspace, then its his rules, his way. if you dont like it, find another forum. the warning system works for me. considering the content on this board, you could dress me up in a pink tutu and parade me around souix city, iowa and i wouldnt complain too much. :P
public shame is good. individual responsibility is good. wheres the problem here? Are you looking down my shirt?

But why wasn't jeex warned
he made some racially inflammatory comments that had nothing to do vcds, dvds, etc.
and he obviously was insinuating the n word when he quoted the word "minority"
at least the stupid decisions that i made was on topic
if he doesn't respond that way
i would have never receive a warning, because you had just warned us in the previous post and i had realized things had gone too far
but i wasn't going to take the statement laying down
plus , he made 2 vulgar statements after that one

wow i havent been to this forum much during the summer and was completely shocked by this warning system. My question is how serious does something have to be in order to get a warning? Are we talking about big things like warez gets a warning or would a person get a warning for starting a small war over two apps?

I typically don't come here for help, I come here to help others. It's no loss to me if Baldrick, et al, want to alienate people like me by stamping us with a public yellow card. I'm certainly not going to bother trying to be helpful when the possibility exists that all anyone will see is my Hawthorne-esque badge of shame and not the answers I have to give.
I think that this particular Mod (whom I've never even seen before in these boards during my brief time here) deserved to have "bullshit" called on his snotty response to a question, and I stand behind telling him to **** off. I'll be damned if I've spent this much time on earth just to take shit from some bull-headed Mod on the internet. And no one else bothered to tell this person that, as a Mod, they should've been more helpful to the original poster.
The only thing a first offense yellow card does is make me want to say "**** off" again and post irate messages such as this. Great ******* system.

You were warned here for behaviour that BJ_M thought was inappropriate. I'm not sure that I would have warned you but all we do is interpret Baldrick's rules and try to maintain some order. It's a thankless job and we get crap all the time...
Just because that you think that you come to help doesn't excuse you from the Forum rules: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124514 which you obviously have broken. Usually, we let things slide rather than made a big deal of it but don't be surprised if you DO get warned if you break a rule.
Rather than blaming everyone else, take responsibility for your own actions. If you think that you can give bullshit out, then be man enough to accept some in return. Furthermore, let me remind everyone that membership and posting at the DVDRHelp.com forums is voluntary.

@Karate Media. I have no intent to upset you, nor will I issue another yellow card for your bad language in this thread, I just want to explain that I believe you completley mis-understood the post that caused you to mouth off and get the yellow card you currently have.

snowmoon went on to say that it is pretty useless for us to discuss this subject as the only person who knows the answer (to the original question), is the person himself. To all this you simply responded with a pile of verbal abuse, for which you got yellow carded. If you had seen the post in a different light, then maybe you would have responded diferrently.
If you decide to quit DVdrhelp over this, so be it, thats your choice. If you decide to stay, then maybe the yellow card will make you think twice before making such a post in the future, in which case it has done its job.
Just my opionion.

Hey, I'm the one who made the post... and yes, some people cannot understand a retorical question when they see one. The post was meant to show how stupid it was to ask a large group of unaffiliated people a very personal question.
Karate, I think what bothers the mods the most is that you cannot just let things go. You broke the rules and you got a yellow, just move on. I wasn't going to zap you on that post because I felt a little too involved, even though I though you deserved it. I guess my instinct was not misplaced. But you, I asked you nicely and all I got back was a sarcastic remark blasting mods.
And yes, I have been gone for a while now. I'm still getting caught up on the technical aspects, but I don't forget rules of civility. I have been a poster and helper on this site for 3 years now and even helped baldrick write the AUP ( fair use section ). I have also followed Donald Graft's work from day 1 and wish him nothing but luck.

The warning/yellow card system is now more private, only admins, mods and the user that has received a warning will be able to see the cards under the name.
Everyone will still be able to see if a user have recieved a warning but then you must manually check for the users posts and check for the blue "formal warning" text.
-
I would agree, I like looking for the yellow cards
Reminds me of a soccer game
-
I was going to post this remark before your change, but went off-line for a while.
It appeared to me that ALL a warned users posts, dating who knows how far back, were flagged with the cards.
This might give some the idea that the poster was in some way un-trustworthy. Could also be like "Wow, 3 years, only 1 warning!"
It's still your Forum, but I think you have made a wise decision, keeping it confidential, except for the Blue Warning text on the offending post. That will be the only one, won't it?

it does seem kinda like an un-inforced rule too.. lots of people curse and dont get warned about it.. i've been asked to tone it down.. which i have.
not to mention that it does pertain to "applicable laws".. there is no law about typing curse words in my locality..
so i guess cursing is okay, atleast for me.. as long as i'm not being disruptive..

You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning.

Jeex the odd swear word to emphasize emotion or to get a point across in the context of the thread is tolerated. But simply writing a long list of swearwords at then end of a post to see if you can get a reaction, or how far you can push the boundries is not.
And the main rules apply to all forums.
