  1. OK im trying to encode an MPEG2 file, using an MPEG2 file as the source (don't ask why) using TMPGEnc, but i run into troubles.

In TMPGEnc version 2.5.03, when i start encoding, the output file is black. No video, no audio.

In TMPGEnc version 2.5.13, it encodes fine, just how it should, but the damn thing buggers up in a random location, giving a read error. This version of TMPGEnc does this for ANY file when encoding, and as far as i can see there is no fix to it.

As a matter of fact, i can't get any version later than 2.5.03 running on my PC, because they all bugger up in random spots with the same error.

I have searched for a fix to this bug for TMPGEnc, and all i have come up with is people reporting the same problem, with no solutions.

Any help or ideas on what i can do to get a WORKING MPEG2 output from an MPEG2 input!!!

What happens when you encode something !=mpeg2 (like AVI) to mpeg 2? As TMPGEnc can't read mpeg2 natively, what do you use to enable TMPGEnc to read mpeg2 at all? The mpeg2 plugin, or do you have PowerDVD installed (and TMPGEnc is using it's mpeg2 decoder)? In any case, try updating/installing PowerDVD (trial version will do fine).

Are you using a 2 pass VBR encode, if so then you will see no output untill the encoding process gets past 50%

I know this dude. Im not a newbie to this. Its a CQ VBR set at 1700 max bitrate. Its not a 2-pass VBR. Im using CQ 1700 (%90) on both versions 2.5.03 & 2.5.13

When i encode avi(divX) to say, mpeg1 in 2.5.13, i get that random read error somewhere along the line. It happens regardless of the source or output.

Version 2.5.13 is able to detect the mpeg2 fine. It is outputting it ok, until it suffers from the annoying random read error.

Version 2.5.03 is not able to detect the mpeg2 properly. It opens the file, but the output has no audio or video (its not a 2pass vbr)

There is one plugin installed for version 2.5.13 that 2.5.03 doesnt have.

Its called LIGOS MPEG-2 Decoder. It seems to come native with the new version. How can i copy this plugin over to the older version that doesnt have the random termination bug.

    try workaround:
    1. open your mpeg2 file in virtauldubMOD
    2. frameserve it
    3. open framesered file with tmpg
    4 encode
