I'm trying to use ffmpegx to extract the video/audio from a DVD into an uncompressed .avi format so I can losslessly re-edit the footage (in final cut or premiere) before re-encoding it in other formats (like quicktime and windows media). Can anyone help? I have a job to do and for the life of me can't see a way.

    Thanks,

    Bungle.

  2. Use mpeg2decX for that and select "None" as quicktime codec (why avi?). However this will need a quite enormous amount of disk space, so you should consider using MJPEG A or some other codec.

Thanks for the advice. The reason for avi is that I need to be able to load the clip into a number of editors and do not want to compress it in any lossy way past the MPEG 2 already used on the DVD. Is there any lossless compression that's universally accepted by editing programs?
