  1. Im about to author my first dvd, ive put the mpegs and menus together (using tmpgenc dvd aauthor), the total size according to tmpgenc is 4459mb where as it shows the max capacity as 4438mb. Is this dvd likely to work ok if i burn it? Ive not got a dvd player so would be unable to test it, im archiving video off my pc ready for when i get one. I dont wanna rencode all my mpegs again! Ill be using verbatim datalife plus media.

    regards,
    bri

  3. If it's too big, your burning app shouldn't let you burn it. Also, there is no "Over-burn" on DVD's so if it's to big, even by just 1K, it wont work

  4. I use Nero to burn my DVD's and it caps out at 4.5GB. If my data goes any larger than that Nero will not let me burn.

generally, the magic number is ~4.3GB

If you are talking about TMPGenc DVD Author program it seems to be conservative on its measurements...

When TMPGenc DVD Author says 4484mb and shows it to be too big, the final DVD before I Nero it to burn is 4.34Gb according to WIN XP PRO and burns with no twiddling for overburning as it is just under the MAX size for a DVD.

So If I need to I routinely run it up to showing 447X MBs since that leaves me wityh room for a simple Directory on the DVD that I put the descriptive Text files into for later reference.

    Hope this helps.

It is also possible that they do this to leave room for motion menus which I do not use.

    Cheers
    Roger

Edited: Although this works for me, I would still check the DVD folder and be sure it is 4.35 or less as reported by Windows.
