  1. Hi,

I have a Sony TRV240 Digital8 Camcorder and I am trying to capture video over my IEEE-1394 port. I have used Windows Movie Maker 2 and DVIO. What I don't understand is why the resolution of the resulting capture is 640x480 and not 720x480. Any ideas? Other than the resolution issue, the video looks great.

    Thanks.

  2. I have a follow-up question. Could it be that Media Player 9 is cropping the video upon playback? Is there a sure fire way to determine the capture resolution outside of Media Player?

  3. I think it is Media Player. If you right-click the Avi in explorer, choose properties, go to the summary tab and look at the resolution it says 720x480. But if you open it in Mediaplayer and go to File>Properties it says 640x480.

At least on the captures I have from my ADVC-100

  4. The properties on the dv-avi file doesn't list the resolution for me. I have some other software, and I'll attempt to get the resolution from it. Thanks for the help!

  5. Use the program AVIcodec (you can find it in the tools section to the left). It will tell you the resolution.

  6. Sure enough! I used Windows Media Encoder and it lists the resolution as 720x480 while Windows Media Player 9 says 640x480. I'm glad that's settled! Thanks!
