Hello. There's something that is a little strange.. and I hope someone can answer.
When I capture AVI from VHS, I get a nice AVI, and when I convert it to VCD with tmpeg I get macroblocks. Not soooo much, but enought to be annoying.
When I convert from DVD - VCD I get hardly any blockiness.. Ok, so I thougt that DVD has much better quality than my AVI file has, but should that really matter to the blockiness, when I have the same bitrate and all? I mean, shouldn't I actually need less bitrate since the source is worse than DVD?
Just asking.. *sigh* .. can anyone help? Best way of reducing blockiness?

De - interlace the source avi...
Helps most of the times!
It has nothing to do with Interlace output!
Interlace in >> Interlace out is wrong!
Interlace in >> De - Interlace - Interlace out
Give it a try, and you will see...

try using vdub with the "smart smoother" (get newest version somewhere) filter. this thingy realy works wonders! Even pre-blocked divx-files can be smoothed out without losing too much detail.
