  1. I say Potter, Rowling sues newspapers for $100 million, how much punch can you buy from Costco with $100 million dollars? subtract the thousands of pairs of Nike shoes and black sweat suits, she'll have hardly any money left for all those broom sticks. As for the Wachowski's.... we hardly even see their faces so thats got to have some weird explaination, they could just be ugly

    edit:added neither

Do you see all the news reports about the release of the new harry potter book!. what a madhouse- you don't see that sort of reaction for the matrix (at least not so public)

Neither might be a nice poll option.

    Thanks
My point was I think there's been far too much money spent on them, too much promotional work and hype for them to be thought of as a cult.

I've seen the Wachowski's and yes they are ugly.

In my opinion, the Matrix has changed the way we look at sci fi, and Harry Potter has shown that a children's book can still be sofisticated. Sure the money and marketing spent on these franchises is grotesque, but people get enjoyment out of them so that's all that matters. The money factor really doesn't concern me so much either, its really all relative. If they spend more they can make more. Either way they are probably going to make the same percentage of money off of such a marketable franchise, so they might as well bump everything up by a factor of 10. When your stories are set in completely fictional worlds where "magical feats" are commonplace, a larger budget DOES make for a better movie, as long as the all of the other elements of a good movie are still present.

Hey, if they can spend £6m on marketing a movie and still make a bucketload then good luck to them I say.
The only thing I find tacky is the depths the studio's will drop to make a couple of quid sorry, make a buck or two.
I was watching an interview with Rowling (JK) and she attends monthly merchandise meetings with Warner Bros, and one example would be (from the 2nd film, the dead girl who spent her time in a cubicle in the girl's bathroom)...
    ...Moaning Murtle Toilet Roll.
    Very tacky.
The Harry Potter series has been a Godsend here in the UK.
It's no exageration to say that these books have awoken an entire generation to reading.
Standards had certainly taken a dive over here, shitty violent kids tv and consoles had virtually taken over the world.
Congratulations Joanna Rowling, in this age of greed for such little input (highly paid sports stars spring to mind) you deserve every penny of your alleged £280m fortune.

I'd vote for Stars Wars if it were an option, but since this is only between Matrix and HP, I choose The Matrix. Some people are getting WAY to into these movies!
