    Hi all,

My friend and I were trying to rip the main Spiderman movie using DVD Decrypter, but gave up when the process started and said that the remaining time to rip was 1hour+!!

We switched to SmartRipper and the whole thing took only 20mins!

Why is there such a big difference between the 2? Had we done something wrong or omitted something in DVD Decrypter, or is 1hour+ ripping the norm for a 2 hour film?

    Any suggestions?

  2. That seems very odd -- unless you were using a DVD burner to rip (burners are usually capped at 2x reading speeds -- DVD ROM is the preferred way to go, as they can run much faster, usually 7x or more).

Using Decrypter on my machine takes about 15 minutes, regardless of the length of the film (even a full sided DVD9 doesn't take much longer). You *are* ripping in File mode, right? (Press F when you start and then make sure you select all the files if you want to backup the entire DVD).

  3. you could try refreshing the devices in dvddecryptor...either "refresh" or "renew" or "rehost" or something like that.

this same thing happens to me. smartripper rips faster than dvddecryptor because the devices need to be refreshed or something. could be aspi???

  4. I use both of them but find myself using SmartRipper more as it seems a bit more user friendly.

  5. I switched to DVDDecrypter when Smartripper couldnt decode a DVD, never had a problem w/ DVDDecrypter. They're both worth having around, if one doesnt work try the other.

    Update!

Since my original post, my friend has had a virus on his PC, which has meant that we were unable to continue after ripping the movie.

He has since removed the virus and rebuilt his PC, but now SmartRipper will not rip above 2x. Why?

We have tried removing the IDE controller devices and enabling DMA, which have made no difference.

Could it be ASPI? When we originally ripped the movie, no ASPI layer was installed. It was for the latest rip which was much slower.

Could it be the generic DVD-ROM driver that comes with XP rather than the one for the specific drive (Liteon LTD163)?

Or could it be something completely different?

Any help would be much appreciated, as he doesn't want each rip he does to take 1 hour+.

BTW, DVD Decrypter was no better.

    Cheers

  8. I have ripped Spiderman Full Screen using DVDDecrypter, took about 40min because I have only dvd-rw drive.

  9. I'd use the DVD's drivers instead of XP's. That drive will do 16X according to posts I've seen.

  10. I had a similar problem with the Band of brothers. I was able to rip the first 5 dvds with dvd decrypter, but on the 6th it would get read errors, did something like 800 retries. Switched to smart ripper and no problem. I think that the errors came from the fact that there were a lot of non DVD type stuff (DVD-ROM content) and there wanst any css on the disk. good to know that if one doesnt work that the other will.

I started with Smart Ripper and was running at around 4x and it took me about 20 minutes to rip a 90 minute DVD. Then I installed DVD Decryptor 2 weeks ago, it went occassionally to 8.3x and it took about 12~15 minutes to rip a 90 minute DVD. Therefore, I use DVD Decryptor most of the time and it also create movie name directory automatically before rip.

Now, I don't know what happened, DVD decryptor sometimes ripped as long as 40 minutes if it does not hang.

Now I switch back to Smart Ripper and 20 miutes or 30 minutes ripping is acceptable! I don't know what happened. Maybe I have tried too many download free and trial softwares that might have interference with DVD Decryptor.

I always use DVD Decrypter, it's only failed me once.

I was ripping a region 2 dvd (which means brute force DeCSS) and it couldn't find a vunerable sector.

I used to use Smartripper to rip my disks, but changed to DVDdecrypter because it is better at removing region protection.

  14. I usually use decryptor because it tends to load a little faster than smart ripper, but I find smart ripper has more options. Thus I have both.
