Alright i know this is my second post in like five minutes but this doesn't make any sense that i can't burn this dvd. I've done this at my friends house, using dvd decrypter before anything else, and i've had no problems. Reading the DOOM9 guide for using DVDShrink doesn't say a damn thing about decrypting the movie before burning so i assumed you don't need to do that with that program? I dont know. I used DVD Decrypter then DVD2ONE then burned with nero at my friends house and didnt' have any problems. Now i'm trying to start with DVD Shrink then just burn. Just like the walkthrough suggests and everytime my red light goes on on Nero and says i'm screwed and it failed, you get the idea. Please help. Thanks.

DVD Shrink should decrypt your DVDs and you wouldn't have to worry about DVD Decrypter anymore, but I still only use DVD Decrypter for all of my DVD movies.

Don't give up yet. I take it you used DVD Shrink, got your back-up down to the required size and then reauthored the DVD which saved all the files to a folder correct. Did you check the folder and view its contents? Could you play the files by double clicking them? AT WHAT POINT DOES nero FAIL, BEGINnING, MIDDLE OR END. More info and be specific please.

Before I forget I hope you are using a DVD RW to run your tests on. Something tells me you are using DVD R (one time write and if it fails you have a coaster). This might account for some of your frustration.

Okay, back with specifics. Thanks for the reply by the way....
Using a Sony DW-U10A
I used DVD Shrink to compress the files to the correct size with just recording the Movie itself. Started up nero and used the wizard and dropped all the files into the VIDEO_TS folder and burned at 2x with DVD-R. Failed at about 25%...could you walk me through real quick? I mean i did this with DVD decrypter, then DVD2ONE, then Nero and it worked fine on my friend's box. I didn't really feel like going through all that and using DVDShrink seemed like it was a quicker way to accomplish what DVD Decrypter and what DVD2ONE did, but apparently it's not working. Any help? Thanks again. -
Yeah i am using DVD-R for this, i dont' have any RWs. Actaully i ordered a bunch of blanks but the Burner just arrived today and blanks haven't yet, so i had to borrow some
Also, concerning audio, if i have AC3 6ch, AC3 2ch, and DTS 6ch, which do i really need and what are they? I really appreciate any help you could give to me, i'm fairly new at this. Thanks.

Please go to Nero's web site and update your version also. Version 5.5.10.35 is the latest one.

MOVIEGEEK, why the extra steps when they are not necessary. Is there some advantage to doing this. Please explain. I have the tools but never used them.

Okay,
Updated Nero, flashed the drive to the DRU-500A firmware, and slam bam thank you ma'am....we have liftoff....thank you all for your help....to hell with the DW-U10A firmware! haha...thanks a lot for all involved...i definitely appreciate the newbie advice.....take care -
Okay ridergroov, glad you have things sorted out. I have 3 machines with DVD Burners in them and 3 other system all on my network. I have gone through alot on some, little on the others to get things working like I want. There's a lot of guys on the site that have a wealth of knowledge, more than me. I learn each week more and more. Take care.

RIDERGROOV the audio u need is down to personal preference
AC3 2CH is actually the same as stereo ie: 2 channels
AC3 6CH is dolby 5.1 surround sound
DTS 6CH is dts (digital theatre surround) similar to dolby 5.1 (only better in my opinion)
HOWEVER DTS 6CH will only work on dvd players equiped with a dts decoder and therefore wont work on all dvd players. AC3 2CH & AC3 6CH will work on all dvd players although you will only get the benefit of 6CH if the dvd player has a DOLBY 5.1 decoder (if no decoder it will just downmix the sound to stereo) therefore when ripping a dvd always choose the AC3 sound (i go for the 6CH as 2CH isnt really needed) so as to make it compatitable with all dvd players i also select the DTS 6Ch as well because i think its better than AC3 and my dvd player has the decoder to play DTS 6CH.
Final point ... usually when a dvd has both AC3 2 & 6 CH the main feature (movie) uses AC3 6CH whilst the AC3 2CH is used for the extras eg: directors comments etc, so its best to rip the 6 CH but if you want directors comments or other extras you will have to rip the 2CH as well (+ the DTS 6CH if you want it)
p.s AC3 6CH and DTS 6CH will require you to have surround sound speakers connected to your system for you to hear the surround sound (2 front speakers 2 rear speakers 1 centre speaker and 1 subwoofer) assuming of caurse that your dvd player has the a required decoder built in -
Okay cool back to my audio question, almost forgot with all this confusion...so basically ONLY rip the 6ch and i will be good whether i'm downstairs with my two speaker setup or upstairs with my 5.1 right? Thanks for the writeup....i really appreciate all that....if you could just clarify this one last point...thanks!
-
5.1 DD will play just fine with only a two speaker setup (you just won't have surround sound).

okay, my last question and i will leave all you people alone...for awhile
if i only use the 6ch DTS every time...will i still have 2 channel IN STEREO when i'm only using 2 speakers?? i'm assuming yes but i thought i might ask while this thread is still running....thanks again to all...
-
as i pointed out before dts 6 ch will only work if the dvd player has a built in dts decoder (or if it is connected to an external dts decoder via the digital out socket) it wont work on non dts systems .... ac3 5.1 6 ch will work on all dvd players so u should always rip the ac3 6 ch
