  1. Hey all, I've been struggling for weeks now trying to convert grandpa's 80th B-Day video to MPEG-2 to burn to DVD for the relatives. When I use TMPGEnc I get a high pitched noise in the background. Also, it occurs with the Roxio, Ulead, etc. DVD authoring progs. However, when I use Main Concept's Encoder it works like a charm! However, I don't have the $149 to buy the program. Does anyone know what the difference is and how I can get TMPGEnc to work? As far as I can tell the settings are the same. Please . . . the 4th is coming up and I want to surprise people. I wanted to do this at a grad party 2 weeks ago, but couldn't get the high-pitched sound out. Thanks for ANY and ALL help anyone can give me!

Try using an external tool to handle the audio encoding (i use toolame)
I had all sorts of probelems with the built in encoder, background hiss, tinny sound ect. It all stopped when I switched audio encoders.

Tried toolame but it would bail after creating the initial wav file. Illegal audio or something. Any suggestions?

Use toolame INSIDE TMPGEnc (in the invironmental settings) to make the mp2 stream . Under the "external tool" tab, check the dialog box, then browse for where you have the toolame program.

I did this and I still get an illegal audio stream or something like that. I have no idea what's going on. I use XP, is there a problem with that OS?
