I'm in the market again to purchase 100-200 disks. I've already went through 200 Optodiscs and like their quality, but I've also seen Accu disks. Has anyone used both, and if so which do you think is higher quality?

Like I said, I like the Optodiscs, but compared to Ritek, TDK, and Verbatims...........the Optodiscs load in my DVD player a little longer compared to the other brands. How are Accu disks when it comes to loading?

    Thanks for any info.

  2. the ACCU disks appear to be excellent. Basically, i've burned 5 of the 4x disks and hundreds of the 2x, and only a couple of bad ones. Are you looking for 2x media or 4x media? It seems as though these 4x ACCU disks are very stable...although 5 isn't an abudance...I have seen zero problems with them @4x. The optodisks work great as well....it appears as though more and more media is becoming more and more compatible and more and more sturdy. To say one is better then the other, without concrete facts is too difficult.

  3. I have burnt 5 Optodisc DVD-Rs at 2x and they work great.

    Dunno about Accu.

  4. I like the optodisc. Both the 1X and 4X optodisc dvd-rs are excellent. Price is great too.

I've burned 15+ Optodisc Gold top. Two wouldn't play in my Apex AD-703 player (discs burned 2X with Pioneer 105 with hacked 1.30 firmware). After upgrading firmware to 1.33 hacked, all subsequent burns (at 2X) play just fine on my Apex. This must be due to the improved "writability" of 1.33 firmware

I've tried both, and they both suck. I found this out after I attempted to play them in my friends and family dvd players. I've burnt the same movies using TDK and they worked in all the players that the other two brands didn't.

Remember you get what you pay for, but to each his own.

MOSTLY you get what you pay for, but unfortunately it's not 100%.

There is not one brand of DVDR that works on every standalone DVD player on the market.

e.g.: Verbatim -R works great on a lot of players, but not on my friend's JVC 522. The much cheaper Sentinel/OptoDisc discs work just fine on his JVC 522.

  8. I've buned approximately 100 of 1x ACCU disks and about the same number of 1x OptoDisks. Quite a few of the ACCUs has problems playing on my friends standalone players. The Optodisks play very well on all players. Lately I've started testing what I burn with Nero's CD Speed. Optodisks are almost 100% perfect. I'd say the
ACCUs are about 60 to 70% good. My criterion is the straightness of the transfer test line in the CD Speed test using a high speed DVD ROM. The test usually start at a transfer rate of 3.5 and go straight to approximately 8.0 on a perfect straight line.

OptoDisks burn perfectly at 2x with Pioneer A04 and 2x4ALL hacked firmware. I get same perfect results in CD Speed test.

I understand that some players might have problems playing some disks and there may not be a 100% success rate no matter the make, but I have found 100% so far using TDK. Whereas I have found flaws with most other brands. Also I noticed most people are buying TDK disks, why? Beacause they work well. In some stores they fly off the shelves and other brands are still in stock.

    A 95-100% success rate beats a 60-70% (if you're lucky)any day.

I've also read several articles online that state that some cheaper brand disks after time will have trouble playing because of inferior material.

I don't know how true it is, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I prefer not to go after fools gold.

  10. Just continue to buy whatever works. I use DupEZs from Rima and have had 100% success rate. These discs costs around $0.80.

I've burned more than 1,000 gold-coated Optodiscs, and had 1 coaster because I made a stupid mistake. The 1x discs were excellent. I have yet to get the 4x ones in mass amounts, but the few samples I got to test out also worked like a charm.

With Accu, I had problems, but again, that was almost a year ago at this point. Maybe they've changed? I won't give them another chance (because I lost some valuable time on a project). They were apparently LeadData/Accu which supposedly differs from Sony/Accu, but I've got no information on that.

Comparing the two, from a perspective of past quality, Optodisc is the best choice.

You know, with all the media advice I give, I need to invest in a few of these companies. Or at least get an advertising stipend. :P
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

The only thing that scares me about the Optodiscs is that I had 3 blemmed discs out of 10.

One disc had spots all over the dye. The dye is dark purple, but the spots were almost white, where there wasn't any dye at all. Two of them had bubbles.

The other 7 were good though. Higher quality than Lead Data (IMO)

Optodisc uses metal AZO for their reflective layer.

Given that the 1x DupEz are about the same price as the Optodisc, give them both a try.
