I just bought a Philips DVDR985 and just started to backup some of my rare VHS tapes (mostly animation prior to 1990). I was really excited and noticed that the DVDR985 tends to make light colors (white, yellow, flesh, etc.) come out too bright tot he extent that you can barely make out any details. I tried rerecording it several times and it happens all the time and sometimes at different scenes. When I play the tape directly to my TV, the colors are just fine. I don't think it is a copy protection on the tape since I know the Philips have some copyright protection built in and plus, I also tried hooking by VCR player through a filter to remove any macrovision (I think this is what you call it).
I installed the latest firmware and still have the same problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I'd really like to backup my tapes in perfect condition cause I highly doubt that they'll ever be released on DVD.
Thanks in advance.
